Are you planning to ask your beloved to marry you soon and are thinking of an engagement holiday? Getting on your knees is something you do (if all goes well) only once in your life, and of course this moment should be perfect. We have found a list of the 10 most special places in the world for a spectacular and memorable marriage proposal! And no, it doesn't include the Eiffel Tower... You'll have to sit on a plane for most locations, unfortunately....
At number 10 is Maya Beach in Thailand. Maya Beach has a beautiful beach with an extremely clear sea and is surrounded by impressive rocks. This location is perfect if you and your loved one are true travellers and enjoy tropical paradises.
Switzerland's Lauturbrunnen ranks 9th. At this peaceful spot, you can have a romantic picnic among the many flowers, snow-covered Alps and soothing waterfalls. Do you really love nature and hiking in the mountains? Then we would really consider this place!
Do you love the real Christmas atmosphere? Then you should take your girlfriend to the village of Drøbak in Norway during the Christmas period. Imitation Father Christmases are not welcome here, as they have their own symbol: a Christmas gnome called the Julenisse. According to one of Japan's biggest newspapers, you can experience the ultimate Christmas atmosphere in Drøbak. So are you thinking of proposing in Winter Wonderland? Then head to Norway!
In 7th place is the island of St Lucia. This beautiful little island that only has an area of 600 km² is located in the Caribbean close to Barbados, Rihanna's birth island. With an impressive volcanic mountain range and beautiful forests, this small island has many special places. Location number 6 is also not around the corner. After all, this is Central Park New York! In New York, you surely have hundreds of beautiful and special spots, but one place that we really like (especially in autumn) is the Bow Bridge in Central Park. We can already picture it: a beautiful autumn sun poking through the orange-coloured trees, overlooking the water and the New York skyline in the background. How romantic would that be for a proposal! And besides, if you're in New York anyway, it costs you nothing (apart from the ring, of course).
Are neither of you afraid of heights? Then the next way is impressive for a proposal: a balloon ride! Would you like to add a special holiday to it as well? Then go to Kenya! A proposal high in the sky with a view of giraffes, lions or zebras, all during sunrise. So it's not for nothing that this balloon ride is number 5 on our list.
For the next dream spot for a proposal, it is also better if you are not afraid of heights. This is because the Vertigo Grill & Moon Bar is located on the former helicopter pad of the Banyan Tree hotel in Bangkok. This restaurant sits on the 61st floor! Enjoy a delicious dinner and spectacular views across the city here! For your proposal, arrange the table with the best view and, of course, make sure to get photos of you in action with the beautiful view!
Then we have arrived at our top 3! In third place, we found a restaurant a little closer to home. The southern Italian town of Polignano a Mare is home to the Grotta Palazzese hotel. The name of this hotel gives it away a bit, as there is an impressive restaurant at this hotel in dug-out rocks. What's more, this restaurant also has stunning views of the Adriatic Sea! Just don't drop your ring during your proposal, as you won't be able to find it again in the waves breaking on the rocks below the restaurant.
Mexico is number 2 in our list! The Mayan ruins near the ancient city of Tulum. These impressive ruins are located on a beautiful secluded, postcard-worthy, white beach. So the engagement photos here will 100% definitely be enviable! And you know what's even better? A ticket to tour the area (or propose) costs just $2 per person. Maybe this will compensate a little bit for the trip to Mexico itself
Then we finally arrived at our number 1! This beautiful spot in Puerto Rico has even made it into the Guinness Book of Records! It may not sound appealing at first, but this magical place is called Puerto Mosquito. Puerto Mosquito has the world's brightest luminous bay. Yes you read correctly, LIGHTING! Plan your proposal here in the evening and get the special feeling of being surrounded by stardust.
